Really enjoyed this post but I just wanna point out that your analysis would benefit from a bit more history: the same media that did that to Nathalie is the same one that refused to report on what happened to me. And when I finally got my moment with Totilo to ask him why, he said, "I don't know." And then we spent the next 45 minutes talking about Nathalie and he gave me the same answer he gave everyone else.
Thank you for the kind words. I am definitely open to being better educated on the history of the media's failures. I fear the lack of conversation in both actual articles/writing and on social media means even more individual's stories will be missed entirely.
Nah, I should thank you for speaking truth. I have been so disillusioned by some of the people, and their responses, outlined in this post. Appalled, even, and feeling weirdly invisible, like I was the only one who saw it. Carried around a lot of pain at being shunned and hurt by some of those people and then completely freed when I realized how ugly their souls were.
My story got lost because I wasn't grandfathered into the wave of concern that arose once certain reporters realized that reporting on sexual assault and other injustices was now a lucrative opportunity in games media. It was only remembered when the Ubisoft scandal proved me right. I wasn't the "right" kind of victim and many of the big players in games reporting are people who made the deliberate choice to ignore me for a decade (not just on the assault, but also when my body of work was also erased from Destructoid in retaliation for speaking out on their abuses. This similarly does not get included in the history nor was it ever criticized or addressed).
I would definitely like to update my text as I find or are notified of more individuals who have been similarly wronged and ignored. The more it's written the less likely it is to be forgotten or lost entirely. If you'd ever want to share more than you have already publicly you can always reach me at Steven.francisco.santana@gmail.com, much love
Hey there Steve. I’ve actually made several comments about the Baten Kaitos incident which you seem to be ignorant of (mainly, I was never aware of the sketch in the video nor of the discourse surrounding it for those 48 hours. I thought I was responding to one of the innumerable punks who still bitch about ancient reviews.) Anyway the sketch was appalling but I don’t do the bidding of online mobs. Seems like you went through a lot of trouble in your obsession around my pointless former profession in this piece and thought I’d add to your collection of uninformed insights with some actual information.
You might also enjoy this article I wrote in 2021 which seems to have left little mark on games media as a whole https://www.pastemagazine.com/games/activision-blizzard/diablo-ii-open-beta-preview

They did this to one of their own first.

Anyway, you're 100% right about games criticism.

You keep digging your own grave fool.
My “grave”? You melodramatic idiots really confuse me. Can you articulate a thought without an axiom or phrase contrived by someone else?
I'd rather stand on the shoulders of giants than wrestle with pigs. You both get dirty and the pig likes it.
